Volunteers are the stout hearts and broad backs of our rescue operation. Every day, they are feeding horses, filling troughs, cleaning stalls, fixing fences, and doing the hundred other things that improve the lives of our horses and ensure that the rescue runs smoothly.
The current environment has created a challenge for us. We are in need of volunteers, but must limit the number of people at the rescue. So we are seeking a limited number of people, who are willing to work within the current rules on personal safety, and who can help out at least two days a week. Are you tired of isolating at home and could use some fresh air and exercise?
We have the perfect solution.
Many people would love to adopt a horse, but they recognize that horses require significant energy and resources. These people have done exactly the right homework; so the perfect answer to this dilemma is to sponsor a horse, and let us haul the water buckets and muck the stalls! Each horse deserves his or her special person, and your sponsorship provides for a deserving horse, who may have little chance of adoption.
If you would like to sponsor a horse,
Our sponsors are pure gold, and we are extremely grateful to:
Chuck and Paula, Jane and Tom and Alison for their generous & caring support.
In a perfect world, there would be no horses needing a rescue. In a slightly less perfect world, those horses needing to be rescued would have everything they need. But our world is even less perfect than that, and there are many horses out there who need our help, lacking even basic feed, shelter and veterinary care. We receive distress calls every day. We hate to ask for donations. It’s probably the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do. But we cannot do this alone. It is only through your donations that we can continue to save the lives of these innocents, and we appreciate you more than we can say.

None of us know what the future will hold over the next year, but we intend to continue providing the same high quality of care for our horses that we always have. This will take the support of our entire community.
The equine rescues in Virginia have joined forces to support each other’s efforts. White Bird is honored to be a part of this collaboration. We are looking at innovative ways to support horse owners and their horses across Virginia. But we also need the support of grantors and donors, in an environment where there are many competing needs and fewer resources. We will need all the support we can get to reach urgent need horses.
