Bear and Friend

Bear was the first rescue horse to reach White Bird nearly 11 years ago. A severe case of neglect, he was left to starve in a small mud lot because his owner no longer wanted him. An alert neighbor spotted him and, realizing his situation, approached the owner about “taking him off her hands.” The owner was only too happy to see him go. When Bear arrived, he was nearly 300 lbs. underweight and his hair was falling out in clumps from rain rot. But underneath the filth, lay a beautiful, loving boy who never lost his great fondness for people, despite the fact that they had let him down so badly. Today, Bear is 38, going strong and a much-loved permanent resident of White Bird.
